QLogic QOE2562 8Gb Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapter Announced

by Lyle Smith

QLogic has announced the industry’s first Fibre Channel host bus adapter (HBA), the QLogic QOE2562 8Gb, specifically designed for use in Open Compute Project (OCP) servers. The QOE2562 8Gb Fibre Channel mezzanine HBA is capable of optimal security, maximum performance, and enterprise-class reliability and manageability to OCP data centers. The OCP was founded by Facebook in 2011, which is an initiative designed to increase technology efficiencies (e.g. reducing energy consumption) all the while reducing the environmental footprint of data centers.

The OCP was founded by Facebook in 2011, which is an initiative designed to increase technology efficiencies (e.g. reducing energy consumption) all the while reducing the environmental footprint of data centers.

The OCP is creating a set of technologies that are disaggregated and fully open, allowing for rapid innovation in the data center. With its trusted project validation and testing, the OCP seeks to facilitate the development of network hardware and software in a truly open and collaborative community environment. QLogic is also the first Fibre Channel adapter vendor to achieve the validation and testing to deliver a completely compatible OCP-compliant HBA.

Availability

QLogic Fibre Channel OCP HBAs are available with the OCP Certified Quanta STRATOS S215-X1M2Z server and are expected to be available through other partners, as well as qualified QLogic Signature Partners, with an anticipated release date some time in April 2014.
