QNAP has announced that its dual-port 16Gb/32Gb Fibre Channel (FC) expansion cards now support the latest QuTS hero NAS. With the QNAP FC card installed, a QuTS hero NAS can easily integrate into existing FC SAN environments, providing high-performance storage and backup at a lower cost compared to other SAN devices. QNAP stresses that a QuTS hero with FC SAN is ideal for high-capacity, business-oriented storage solutions for the Big Data era.

The new QuTS hero OS leverages ZFS for comprehensive data reduction, enhanced data integrity, and improved performance. In addition:
- block-based inline data deduplication, compression and compaction works to optimize storage usage and overall performance.
- Self-healing works against silent data corruption to help ensure data integrity
- Creating “near-limitless” LUN snapshots provides multi-version protection
- Configuring Snapshot Replica enables remote backup
FC expansion cards are installed via the NAS PCIe slot. Users can then configure a Fibre Channel target using the iSCSI & Fibre Channel app.
