QNAP Systems has released HybridMount 1.2, a solution that allows users to mount public cloud storage and file servers to a NAS as folders, creating a centralized file management workspace. This makes it a useful remote file sharing solution for multi-site workplaces and companies with offices around the globe, supporting a range of cloud storages (including file storage and object storage) and S3-compatible services.

This makes it a useful remote file sharing solution for multi-site workplaces and companies with offices around the globe, supporting a range of cloud storages (including file storage and object storage) and S3-compatible services.
IT staff can mount a remote server’s folder on the local NAS as a local shared folder using HybridMount (via SMB, AFP or NFS protocol) and can set access permissions for local users. This gives convenient remote file access and editing. Those who leverage HybridMount on NAS devices in different locations can map them to the same cloud storage to ensure file synchronization so they always have the latest file versions.
After public cloud storage is mounted to a NAS or servers as a cloud storage gateway, users can enable local caching, which provides low-latency cloud file access (QNAP notes that Amazon Drive and ShareFile do not support local caching). QNAP offers two free HybridMount licenses, while additional licenses can be added for a cost if users need to activate local caching for multiple mounted cloud storages.
HybridMount also supports multiple object storage services and has the ability to transform unstructured data into file structure, enabling users to easily manage object cloud storage spaces. Once local caching is enabled for object storage, HybridMount provides scheduled file list update and upload settings for edited files, which helps to minimize the usage of cloud services and there for lessens potential service expenses.
