Today QNAP Inc. launched its new double server, the TDS-16489U. This new server leverages dual Intel Xeon E5 processors and integrates an application server and storage server into one chassis. The new double server is designed to tackle Big Data Computing and to assist enterprises in mission-critical tasks as a one-device solution for applications, storage and virtualization.

The new TDS-16489U features two Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 processors (with 4-core, 6-core and 8-core configurations), up to 1TB DDR4 2133MHz RDIMM/LRDIMM RAM (16 DIMM) and three independent SAS 12Gb/s controllers. The TDS-16489U also has four PCIe slots for several expansion options, for example PCIe Gen.3×16 supports AMD Radeon R7 and R9 Series graphics cards for GPU passthrough to virtualization applications; a 40GbE card; a 12Gb/s SAS HBA for connecting 12Gb/s SAS-enabled expansion enclosures (such as the REXP-1620U-RP and the REXP-1220U-RP) for up to 1PB total capacity; and a PCIe SSD NVMe for cache acceleration. The double server has 16 hot-swappable drive bays for SAS/SATA 3.5” or 2.5” drives as well as an additional four 2.5” disk trays at the rear for SSD caching.

Like all of QNAP’s devices, the TDS-16489U is powered by QTS 4.2, QNAP’s OS. QTS provides several business rich applications that makes the TDS-16489U ideal for a secure private cloud. QTS 4.2 also allows for cross-platform filing sharing (across Windows, Mac, and Linux/UNIX) that makes the new double server ideal for a centralized storage solution for organizations that have multiple users with various platforms. On that same note, using RTRR, rsync and cloud storage backup, the TDS-16489U offers a flexible backup solution for Windows and Mac and disaster recovery solutions.

Using two of these applications, Virtualization Station and Container Station, users can store computation and data from the guest OS and apps directly on the TDS-16489U through the internal 12Gb/s SAS interface. Companies can see a savings on TCO and a lower footprint having this one device solution. Users can also provide comprehensive high availability and disaster recovery, backup virtual machines can support failover for the primary systems on the TDS-16489U with QNAP’s Double-Take Availability.

QNAP also provides numerous other apps that help to make the TDS-16489U easy to manage and help workers improve productivity. These include: QPulse for discovering, mapping, monitoring and managing every critical computing device (servers/PCs/thin clients etc) on the network as a Centralized Remote Server Management solution; Q’center for centrally managing multiple QNAP NAS units; Qsync for improving team collaboration with cross-device file synchronization; and Gmail Backup for archiving important business and personal emails in the NAS.
