QNAP Releases New HS-251+ Silent NAS

Today QNAP Systems Inc. today announced a new addition to its Silent NAS line, the HS-251+. The new NAS is beefed up in the performance area with a quad-core Intel Celeron 2.0GHz processor, 2GB DDR3L RAM, and powerful integrated graphics. The HS-251+ is designed for home entertainment supporting a wide range of multimedia, coming with HDMI connectivity, the ability to transcode, and can scale up for the large HD media collections.

Unlike traditional NAS devices, the HS-251+ is designed to fit right in with most living rooms. The NAS fits right in with HDTVs, stereos, A/V receivers and game consoles. As the name implies, the NAS is fanless and therefore silent. Fitting the HS-251+ next to the TV lets users connect to an HDTV or an A/V receiver, which enables them to enjoy HybridDesk Station (HD Station). HD Station comes with Kodi media player that allows users to enjoy their multimedia stored on the NAS as well as watch YouTube and surf the web using the free remote control or Qremote mobile app.

Like all of QNAP’s newer devices, this NAS is powered by QTS 4.2 and comes with a wide range of mobile apps. QTS is easy to use making setup and management of the HS-251+ simple. The HS-251+ also supports real-time and offline transcoding capabilities as well as streaming photos, music and videos to different rooms from a single device using Bluetooth, USB devices, HDMI, DLNA, Apple TV and Chromecast as a multi-zone control system.

The HS-251+ supports both RAID0 and RAID1 configurations and can be scaled up to 80TB using expansion enclosures.
