QNAP Systems has announced the release of their new tower-based Turbo NAS TS-x53 Pro series (available in 2, 4, 6, and 8-bay models) and their new 2.5”-drive SS-x53 Pro series (available in 4 and 8-bay models), which offer a powerful and reliable solution for data storage and mission-critical business applications for small and medium businesses. With its exclusive QvPC Technology, these new series from QNAP are inexpensive PC substitutes that enable direct access to stored data, real-time surveillance monitoring with local display, and XBMC digital entertainment.

The TS/SS-x53 Pro series are equipped with a quad-core Intel Celeron 2.0GHz processor with burst speed up to 2.41GHz and 8GB/4GB/2GB energy-efficient DDR3L RAM (expandable to 8GB). Additionally, it supports 2 or 4 LAN ports, which provide up to 400MB/s for both read and write speeds in port trunking mode, while reaching over 70MB/s for read and write AES-256bit encryption performance.

With their QvPC Technology, QNAP’s combines a variety of high-end technologies such as VM integration, multimedia transcoding, HDMI output, cloud integration and NAS connection technologies, which give users the ability to operate the TS/SS-x53 Pro series as a PC when a keyboard, mouse, and monitor are attached. In addition, the TS/SS-x53 Pro series can be transformed into a device with PC functionalities to directly access stored data on the NAS, run multiple applications including using Windows/Linux/UNIX/Android-based VMs, browse the Internet, play full HD videos with up to 7.1 channel audio with XBMC, and monitor the Surveillance Station in real time with local display.

Users can install the Virtualization Station from the QTS App Center to further increase the flexibility of the TS/SS-x53 Pro series by operating multiple Windows, Linux and UNIX-based VMs. Virtualization Station provides a range functions such as snapshots, VM import/export, dedicated LAN ports, and user permissions. Users can also operate VMs as remote desktops through web browsers for management or troubleshooting.

With its integrated hardware acceleration, the TS/SS-x53 Pro series offers superior real-time and offline full HD video transcoding capabilities to convert videos on-the-fly (or in the background) to universal formats. If users only have limited Internet bandwidth available to them, they still have the ability to play videos by selecting lower resolutions through File Station, Video Station, or the Qfile mobile app. The TS/SS-x53 Pro series also allows multiple users to watch different videos simultaneously without affecting the performance of other running applications.

The TS/SS-x53 Pro series provides a range of comprehensive business applications, which allows SMBs to build a secure private cloud, and supports VMware, Microsoft and Citrix virtualization solutions to simplify virtual storage management. The cross-platform file sharing for Windows, Mac, and Linux/UNIX users allows the TS/SS-x53 Pro series to be an effective centralized storage solution for organizations with a large user-base. Its support for Windows AD, LDAP directory services and Windows ACL help to improve the efficiency of permission settings and can also act as a domain controller for Windows. Additionally, TS/SS-x53 Pro series offers flexible backup solutions for Windows and Mac users as well as disaster recovery solutions including RTRR, rsync, and cloud storage backup. The IT Management Station (powered by Mandriva Pulse) offers an IT system management solution for businesses of all sizes to centrally manage multi-OS and multi-site IT assets. With its unique Signage Station, business users can also create animated content and advertisements for promoting their services.

The TS/SS-x53 Pro series features a scalable design, allowing administrators to connect a QNAP expansion enclosure (UX-500P or UX-800P) for a maximum total storage capacity to 96TB with multiple volumes. The UX-500P and UX-800P tower expansion enclosures provides SMBs with inexpensive alternatives to expand their storage capacity on demand in order to fulfill storage-intensive applications as well as for backing-up the entire content of the connected Turbo NAS.
