QNAP Systems has released the TVS-871T, the industry’s first Thunderbolt 2 Turbo vNAS and designed for creative media professionals looking to streamline large 4K video and design workflows. The TVS-871T comes equipped with 20Gbps bandwidth, SSD cache acceleration, 4K video capable Thunderbolt 2, and compatibility with the Thunderbolt-ready storage expansion enclosures TX-500P and TX-800P, which allows users to expand storage capacity of the Turbo vNAS up to 448TB.

QNAP NASs are known for their versatility, so it's no surprise that their newest solution is full of some pretty useful features to couple its performance-driven build; this is highlighted by its Intel Haswell processor (different build options include Core i5 and Core i7). The 8-bay TVS-871T also has dual 10GbE ports to increase its flexibility and high-performance design. In addition, it has the ability to simultaneously and independently run general Ethernet services in addition to the Thunderbolt 2 network, with zero bandwidth interference. QNAP also indicates that the dual Thunderbolt 2 ports allow users to arrange their workstation connections with the TVS-871T and its storage expansion enclosures based on their individual needs for high accessibility, optimal collaboration, and seamless expansion.

The TVS-871T can connect up to 2 Mac workstations, enabling it to process real-time video editing simultaneously. Additionally, the QNAP asserts that it provides a powerful and stable throughput for real-time non-linear video editing and allows users to multi-track video editing with the low latency. The TVS-871T also supports Apple Time Machine, can connect to a 4K display using an HDMI to directly play 4K videos, and organizes videos via the Video Station.

The TVS-871T uses the latest QTS 4.2 operating system, offering users an easy way to perform file storage, backup, sharing and synchronization. Its embedded QvPC technology also allows users to connect a keyboard, mouse and HDMI display, making the TVS-871T a potential cost-effective PC substitute. Here, users can directly access stored data, run multiple VMs, browse the web, watch 4K videos with Kodi, and monitor surveillance live feeds from IP cameras. Additionally, the built-in App Center provides users with a variety of install-on-demand apps that were created by both QNAP and third-party developers.
