Qumulo Introduces Azure Native Qumulo

by Harold Fritts

Qumulo has unveiled the latest enhancement to its Scale Anywhere platform with the introduction of Azure Native Qumulo (ANQ). This software solution expands to meet the exabyte-level demands wherever unstructured data plays a crucial role. Developed in collaboration with Microsoft, ANQ represents a significant leap in cloud services, shattering the conventional barriers between scale, cost-efficiency, performance, and functionality for file services within the public cloud.

Kiran Bhageshpur, Chief Technology Officer at Qumulo, highlights the synergistic potential of Microsoft Cloud, especially its leading AI/ML services. The upgraded Azure Native Qumulo empowers customers to transition their file-based AI/ML workloads into the cloud, facilitating them to operate at scale directly within Azure, effectively balancing performance, features, and cost.

Azure Native Qumulo Topology

Maneesh Sah, Corporate Vice President of Azure Storage at Microsoft, emphasizes the critical role of unlocking unstructured data in Microsoft’s mission. The fusion of Microsoft Azure Blob Storage with Azure Native Qumulo is a testament to Microsoft and Qumulo’s dedication to delivering the familiarity of on-premises file management capabilities at a cost structure parallel to object storage. Azure alone provides an optimal mix of performance, cost-efficiency, and scalability.

Azure Native Qumulo, a pivotal component of Qumulo’s Scale Anywhere platform, is recognized as a leader in the 2023 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Distributed File Systems and Object Storage. It delivers a comprehensive, enterprise-grade cloud-native file services solution featuring AI-driven performance where 99 percent of I/O operations are cache-served, enhancing performance and buffering file workloads from cloud object storage latencies.

The solution boasts true cloud simplicity with rapid deployment, allowing operational readiness in mere minutes. It provides cloud-scale by decoupling performance from long-term storage retention, which supports independent, elastic, and smooth scaling. ANQ also enables customers to adjust their cluster’s throughput rates dynamically, responding to demand fluctuations. Moreover, it incorporates Azure’s remarkable data durability and a clustered architecture to ensure continuous file accessibility.

Positioning itself as the sole cloud-native file service to challenge on-premises file service costs, ANQ offers its services at a substantial cost reduction, up to 80 percent less than its competitors, including other cloud vendors. It employs a pay-as-you-go model, enhancing economic efficiency as the volume of data increases.

With monthly pay-as-you-go options starting at $30 per TB for volumes over 1PB and base rates beginning at $37 per TB per month for a 100TB commitment, the pricing is designed to be incremental as data grows. For detailed pricing structures and examples, ANQ directs interested parties to consult its pricing page.

Introducing The Scale Anywhere Platform

Qumulo has also launched the latest iteration of its Scale Anywhere™ Platform, enabling enterprises to effectively handle the complexities of unstructured data by providing a unified and scalable solution that enhances efficiency, security, and business agility.

Qumulo offers an uncomplicated approach to managing data at the exabyte scale across various locations — be it edge, core, or cloud — tailored to the platform preferred by the client. Amidst a digital universe expanding to over 100 zettabytes, companies are seeking a versatile solution that pairs the ability to operate from any location with ease of use. The newly introduced platform comprises four key elements and offers an innovative approach to utilizing on-premises storage akin to cloud storage.

Encompassing Global Namespace (Q-GNS)

The Scale Anywhere suite also encompasses the Global Namespace (Q-GNS), which serves as a singular data plane for an organization’s unstructured data, spanning from edge to core and cloud. Q-GNS empowers enterprises to access and work with remote data seamlessly as if it were local across all workflows, ranging from the ones requiring high performance to those for active archives. Q-GNS provides a full spectrum of Qumulo’s data services across geographically dispersed systems.

Qumulo facilitates using its platform on either standard hardware or the public cloud chosen by the customer. Completing the offering, Nexus, Qumulo’s unified control plane, integrates with Qumulo One, an enterprise-level licensing program applicable across Qumulo’s product range.

The platform enables customers to oversee a globally distributed hybrid infrastructure, connecting dispersed teams through a single, secure enterprise platform.
