Samsung has announced its G-series line of external hard drives at CES 2010. The G-series drives are advertised to be eco-friendly and halogen-free.

Samsung has announced its G-series line of external hard drives at CES 2010. The G-series drives are advertised to be eco-friendly and halogen-free.
The G2 series of portable 2.5-inch drives are available in 250/320/500/640GB capacities and have a USB 2.0 interface. The G3 series of desktop 3.5-inch external drives are available in 1/1.5/2TB capacities and have a USB 2.0 interface. The G3 is power friendly and automatically enters a standby state after five minutes of inactivity.

The G-series’ casing has a multi-leveled glitter surface that protects the drive from fine scratches. Drives are available in four colors – olive green, coral blue, silver white, and cobalt black. They come with Samsung Auto Backup for ongoing data preservation, SecretZoneTM software for personal data encryption and SafetyKey™ for password protection.
The G-series drives will be available globally by mid-January 2010. Pricing is $199 for the 2TB G3 station and 640GB G2 Portable, respectively. They carry three-year warranties.
