Today at the Mobile World Conference in Shanghai, China, SanDisk Corporation introduced its new advanced embedded flash drive (EFD), the iNAND 7232 Storage Solution. The iNAND 7232 Storage Solution comes in capacities up to 128GB (twice the maximum capacity of the previous 7132) and is optimized to deliver best-in-class imaging performance for flagship mobile devices. Now OEMs will be able to introduce mobile devices with even more storage capacity to meet the growing needs of customers. SanDisk is also announcing that they have shipped over 2 billion microSD cards (collectively storing an estimated 11,103 billion MB) since it first started shipping them 10 years ago.

Mobile smart devices are becoming omnipresent and the users of these devices are becoming more and more mature in their usage. Users today want mobile devices that come with ample amounts of storage along with the capabilities to run more complex applications and take beautiful photos and video. SanDisk is addressing these needs with the iNAND 7232 EFD. The iNAND 7232 is built on SanDisk’s 15- nm 3-bit-per-cell (X3) NAND flash storage and the e.MMC 5.1+ HS400 specification. SanDisk states that the EFD has enhanced random read speeds giving faster responsiveness in data-intensive applications.
SanDisk states that the iNAND 7232 is the “fastest embedded flash storage device to date.” Using SanDisk’s second-generation SmartSLC technology (which can intelligently respond on demand to mobile users’ changing needs), the iNAND 7232 can hit speeds of 150MB/s sequential write. SanDisk also states that the sequential write speed can increase to 1.2Gb/s when application performance demands. This will provide quite the benefit as smart mobile devices begin do more advanced tasks such astaking 4K and 3D video, downloading via 802.11ac/802.11ad, and even using multi-camera and depth-sensors for virtual reality.

- Designed for the Latest Wi-Fi Standards: Fast transfer speed to support gigabit wireless performance; 802.11ad ready; supports 802.11ac two-by-two rates
- Significantly Enhanced Speed Over Previous Generation: Sequential read speeds up to 280 MB/s; sequential write speeds up to 150 MB/s2
- Incredibly Thin Form Factor Enables Integration In Slim Host Devices: Available in packages just 11.5mm4 x 13mm in size and as thin as 0.9 mm
- Easily Integrated and Optimized to Support Fast Mobile Device Product Development Lifecycles: The iNAND 7232 storage solution is supported by advanced simulation, trouble-shooting and engineering tools that enable mobile manufacturers to quickly and easily integrate the device into mobile device designs. This offers the potential to significantly reduce the time from product development to product availability.
Availability
SanDisk is currently sampling the iNAND 7232 storage solution with customers in capacities of 32GB to 128GB. SanDisk will be displaying its new EFD technology in the company’s Mobile World Congress Shanghai 2015 booth (Hall 5, Booth #W5 G.90).
