Today, SanDisk announced a cost-efficient 2.5-inch SSD derived from their successful Z400 line. SanDisk designed the Z410 SSD to incentivize the transition from HDD-based platforms for mainstream businesses that value durability and energy efficiency.

Essential-class clients have historically remained bound to an HDD-based system due to the bill of materials (BOM) associated with SSDs, despite their ability to improve performance up to 24-fold. The Z410 was built to address this issue by making flash memory available to users that could benefit from an improvement in performance but can’t justify the cost of enterprise-grade SSDs. Any mainstream corporation whose business model doesn’t depend on top-tier transfer latencies could get all the performance they need from this type of product. SanDisk touts the Z410 SSD as one of the most energy-efficient SSDs in the industry, which would maximize battery life for mobile applications.

The Z410 SSD has been validated for multiple OEM platforms, which is reflective of the endurance it can provide to mainstream corporate or SOHO users. LDPC error correction and a dedicated on-the-fly hardware core work to minimize the effect that small writing errors have on drive performance, giving the Z410 a 1.75 MTTF (Mean Time to Failure) rating. SanDisk reports that the Z410 SSD has an endurance of 120TBW, and consistently strong performance is maintained through SLC Cache technology combined with the Z410’s TLC blocks.
