At VMworld, Scality announced the latest version of their RING software, version 5.0. RING is a petabyte-scale, software-only storage solution that is designed to support file, object, and VM storage in a single storage pool without application customization, third party gateways, or storage appliance lock-in all at 50-70% lower cost.

The latest version of the software offers:
- "Amazon EBS-like" VM storage capabilities (matching Amazon at 200 IOPS per VM). This will allow users to run multiple cloud storage workloads in a single petabyte-scale storage environment. With bursting capabilities of 3,000 IOPS per VM, RING 5.0 can scale out linearly to hundreds of thousands of VMs offering unified storage for VM data and massive amounts of application data, for 10X lower cost per terabyte, and tremendous economies of scale.
- RING 5.0 is 95% faster than last year's version for file operation and random IO.
- The new version has improved automation of deployment, installation, and management with support of standard DevOps tools and a redesigned GUI, advancing Scality's software-defined data center strategy.
Along with the latest version of their software, Scality is also reporting a significant growth in media and entertainment, cloud services, and financial services. Deluxe Entertainment is enhancing their business through SDS with Scality. Scality is now working with QVC and Dailymotion, upgrading their infrastructure. Scality is also working with several of the world's largest banks extending their Enterprise Clouds with unified object and VM storage.
