Seagate has announced several significant product updates as well as the release of its new Cloud Systems and Solutions group (CSS), which delivers scalable, secure, efficient, and cost-effective Cloud service architectures and solutions. Seagate storage products that have been updated include their PCIe flash accelerator cards and enterprise HDDs.

Seagate Cloud Systems and Solutions

Seagate’s CSS product update is comprised of: Integrated High Performance Computing solutions; Scalable, modular components and solutions; Custom systems for OEMs; and Cloud Backup/Restore, Disaster Recovery and Rapid Archive Storage solutions.

Now available, the Seagate ClusterStor 9000 solution is a fully integrated Lustre-based scale-out solution designed for HPC and Big Data for customers looking to reliably plan, deploy, and sustain maximum optimal application performance. The ClusterStor 9000 solution delivers 50% higher performance than previous ClusterStor platforms and delivers superior converged scale-out storage quality and performance efficiency. In addition, the new Seagate EVault Enterprise Backup and Recovery Appliance now supports up to 100TB of usable capacity.

PCIe Flash Accelerator Cards

Seagate’s new Nytro XP6302 card combines high PCIe flash capacity with performance in a half-height form factor. The Nytro XP6302 is also designed for optimal density and performance scaling for high thread count and queue depth workloads. In addition, the Nytro portfolio’s XP6209 card consists of 1.86TB in capacity, which doubles the storage pool of the previous generation.

Enterprise Hard Disk Drives

Seagate has also unveiled its eighth-generation enterprise hard drive portfolio, which is comprised of high performance-optimized storage with 15K and 10K-rpm drives to the capacity-optimized nearline drive; all of which are in a 2.5-inch form factor. These newly announced drives include the Seagate Enterprise Capacity HDD, the world’s first 2TB 2.5 enterprise-class nearline drive, the Seagate Enterprise Performance 15K HDD with increased drive performance and double the capacity of the previous generation; and the Seagate Enterprise Performance 10K HDD Capacity for users looking for both capacity and performance. All of Seagate’s mission critical drives now feature the company’s TurboBoost and are integrated with the latest in SAS technology, offering scalable 12Gb/s throughput to and from the host.

The new drives offer enhanced storage capabilities such as Seagate Secure self-encrypting drive technology, Instant Secure Erase functionality for easy drive retirement, PowerChoice on-demand power savings, RAID Rebuild for faster rebuilds, which help IT managers to deploy and maintain efficient storage systems in the most demanding environments and workloads throughout their lifecycle.
