The 3.5-inch 7200 RPM nearline drive leverages helium technology and supports SATA and SAS interfaces, ensuring compatibility with various setups.
The Exos X24 is engineered for high performance and reliability, matching the performance of the smaller capacity models in the Exos X series. With a sustained data rate of up to 285MB/s and a 2.5 MTBF rating, the drive is designed to handle demanding applications. Its security features, including self-encrypting drive (SED), SED-FIPS, and instant secure erase (ISE), make it suitable for data-sensitive enterprises. The drive is also tailored for scalable hyperscale applications, high-capacity RAID storage, enterprise backup and restore, and centralized surveillance, among other use cases.
A key highlight is the Exos X24’s power efficiency, which is crucial for large-scale data centers looking to reduce operational expenses. It offers enhanced caching capabilities, outperforming solutions relying solely on read or write caching. This efficiency extends to its power management technologies, such as PowerChoice Idle Power Technology and PowerBalance Power/Performance Technology, contributing to maintaining optimal IOPS per watt.

Seagate Exos X24 Availability
Seagate is shipping qualification drives to select customers, with mass production set to start sometime in December. The Exos X24 is being launched with a 5-year limited warranty, just ahead of Seagate’s imminent roll-out of their 30TB-plus HDDs. These upcoming drives are set to feature Heat-Assisted Magnetic Recording (HAMR) technology and are expected to start production in early 2024. A detailed conversation on HAMR just took place on the StorageReview Podcast.
Given the ever-increasing demand for robust, high-capacity data storage solutions, the Exos X24 appears poised to serve the needs of enterprises and data centers aiming to scale their storage capabilities efficiently with this little bump in capacity.
