Seagate has announced a major expansion to its Lyve Cloud Object Storage, with enhanced features and extended reach to new regions in Europe and Asia. The S3-compliant cloud service expects to deliver cost optimization, improved operational efficiency, and scalable solutions across various enterprise applications.

The new features include advanced data and cost management capabilities to help enterprises modernize their backup and recovery processes. Additionally, these updates improve security and compliance measures. For Seagate’s partners, introducing a white-label option and integrated service bundles provides added flexibility, allowing them to capitalize on Seagate’s comprehensive storage solutions. With the expansion, Seagate also introduces new site availability in Germany and Japan, addressing the global needs of enterprises.

Data Lifecycle Logic

An important feature is Data Lifecycle Logic, which automates data management by applying rules to determine how long objects should be retained. This feature helps reduce costs by enabling the effortless deletion of unnecessary objects and the transition of data from high-cost to low-cost storage tiers. The absence of minimum object retention periods gives users greater control, enabling them to manage and delete data, resulting in cost savings efficiently.

Near-instant geo-replication ensures that data is replicated in real-time across locations, enhancing disaster recovery while optimizing access for distributed teams. Furthermore, Seagate’s White Label offering allows partners to expand their revenue streams with flexible S3-compatible storage services. Adding IP source control gives customers more authority over data access by defining access rules through IP address ranges.

According to Melyssa Banda, VP of Enterprise Systems and Solutions at Seagate, the expanded features and regional coverage empower customers to scale cloud-native workloads, including AI, machine learning, and edge data applications, while maintaining compliance with data localization policies.

Predictable Costs

One of the advantages of Lyve Cloud Object Storage is its predictable cost structure. With no minimum object storage retention and no API or egress fees, businesses can scale their storage needs without financial strain. This flexibility allows enterprises to manage expenses more effectively. Lyve Cloud also seamlessly integrates with other services like Lyve Mobile with Cloud Import.

Security remains a top priority for Seagate, and Lyve Cloud Object Storage includes features such as Write Once, Read Many (WORM) for data integrity, Data at Rest Encryption (DARE) for confidentiality, Single Sign-On (SSO), and Cross-Origin Resource Sharing (CORS) for secure access and complex web application support. These essential security features are offered for free.
