Seagate has announced its Momentus Thin line of 2.5-inch notebook hard drives, the world’s thinnest. They are designed for use in notebook/netbook computers, backup devices, and consumer electronics.
The Momentus Thin drives measure only 7mm in height, 25% slimmer than traditional 9.5mm notebook drives. These drives are designed to compete with current 1.8-inch hard drives and offer a lower cost per gigabyte.
The Momentus Thin drives are available in two capacities, 160GB and 250GB; they feature a SATA II interface (3.0Gbps), 5400RPM spindle speed, and an 8MB cache. The drive is scheduled to ship to Seagate’s OEM and integrator partners in Jan 2010.
