Seagate Now Shipping 10TB Enterprise HDD

by StorageReview Consumer Desk

Seagate has announced volume distribution of their tenth-generation 10TB Enterprise HDD. This drive is the flagship offering of Seagate's nearline portfolio, and is distinct from conventional HDDs through its use of Helium to create an almost frictionless environment. This approach ultimately reduces friction on the platters, allowing spindles to function more efficiently and last longer. Seagate has optimized this HDD for use in large-scale cloud infrastructures.

With a 25% higher platter density and an endurance rating of 2.5 million hour MTBF, this drive is one of the cutting-edge products on the market in terms of hyperscale solutions. By expanding the total capacity of a 42U rack to 9PB while also improving endurance and energy-efficiency, the 10TB Enterprise HDD promises to minimize the total cost of ownership (TCO) for the industry's top cloud service providers. In terms of non-structural features, Seagate's 10TB Enterprise HDD uses advanced caching algorithms to maximize performance, and PowerChoice technology to reduce power consumption during idle time.
