Seagate has announced that their Surveillance HDD, the industry's first dedicated surveillance HDD, is now generally available. Featuring Seagate Rescue services, the company's new HDD is built specifically for surveillance and video analytics applications and employs data recovery services designed to restore data from malice or accidental failure, keeping systems in the field longer and reducing post deployment expenses.

Seagate Rescue services is able to restore data within two weeks depending on the type of recovery, promising more than 90 percent success rate in the data recovery. The rescue plan is activated at time of purchase and provides three years of data recovery at a very low price compared to the cost of data recovery recovery due to anything from malicious software to natural disasters.

The Seagate Surveillance HDD is a seventh-generation optimized surveillance HDD and expands on previous capacities with up to 6TB in storage making it the industry’s highest-capacity drive designed specifically for surveillance applications. The Seagate drive also includes options for rotational vibration (RV) sensors so that it can reliably perform in systems with up to 16 drives, which makes it ideal for small-to-medium businesses that do not have IT support, but where bulk storage for HD video and back up are highly valued.

In addition, the Seagate Surveillance HDD is designed to support surveillance recordings from a number of cameras regardless of their resolution requirements. It also supports up to 32 channels and can handle the higher write workloads, which are inherent of surveillance systems, and supports large streaming workloads for longer periods to meet the demands of industry archive and resolution, improving drive performance in multi-drive and RAID systems.

The Surveillance HDD has a 1 million hour MTBF, allowing the Seagate drive to be kept in the field longer all the while reducing the cost of field deployment and maintaining customer retention. Additionally, the drive is also engineered for low power consumption and heat emissions, which gives solution providers greater design flexibility.

Availability

The Seagate Surveillance HDD is now available in capacities of 1 to 4TB; the 5 to 6TB configurations will be available by the end of 2014.
