Today Spectra Logic and NBC Olympics, a division of the NBC Sports Group, announced that Spectra will be providing video archive and disaster recovery services for the Games of the XXXI Olympiad, which will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from August 5 – August 21. This announcement was made by Spectra’s Chief Sales Officer, Brain Grainger, and NBC Sports Group’s Vice President, Post Operations & Digital Workflow, Darryl Jefferson.

The NBC Olympics will generate a massive amount of data, up to 6PB with 1PB of footage of Olympics games alone. Spectra Logic will capture, provide access and disaster recovery for all the data generated. To capture and access the live broadcasts, there will be two Spectra Logic T50e tape libraries onsite at the NBC Olympics compound within the International Broadcast Center in Rio de Janeiro. NBC Olympics also houses an eight-frame Spectra TFinity and T950 tape library with LTO-6 drives and media at its data center in Stamford, Connecticut. This will serve both a video archive with the TFinity (the TFinity can ingest over 25TB of footage daily) and disaster recovery through the T950.
