Today, StorCentric released the Nexsan E-Series 32F storage appliance. StorCentric was founded in August 2018. In the less than two years it has existed, it has gobbled up four storage companies. The same month the company was founded, they announced that they would be acquiring storage companies Drobo and Nexsan. Soon afterwards, in June 2019, it bought Retrospect, a data backup vendor. Most recently, in July of last year, StorCentric purchased Vexeta.

The highest density configuration of the Nexsan E-Series 32F storage platform has 491TB using TLC (Triple Level Cell) SSDs. Surprisingly, the lower density configuration uses QLC (Quad Level Cell) SSD drives and has 245TB of storage. QLC drives distinguish between sixteen voltage levels per cell (commonly thought of as four bits, thus the name). QLC drives support twice the storage density as TLC drives, which only distinguish between 8 voltage levels (or 3 bits). Normally I would expect the higher storage option to use QLC SSDs and the lower storage option to use TLCs. However, according to StorCentric Nexsan, they went the other way around with the 32F.
All of StorCentric’s Nexsan’s E-Series F units so far have had the same connectivity options. Hence, we expect that to continue with the new 32F unit too. By default, E-Series F units have four 1Gb iSCSI Ports per Controller. For customers that need more throughput, they can optionally add two 10Gb iSCSI Ports per Controller or two 16Gb FC Ports per Controller. In addition, there is a single 10/100/1000 MbE Management Port. Previous models in the series have supported third party software like Windows, VMware, Veeam, Commvault, Hyper-V, and Xen.
The E-Series 32F also supports Nexsan’s E-Flex Architecture, which allows users to select up to two expansion systems. Other E-Series F models have supported Nexsan’s E18X, E48X, and E60X expansion systems. These systems offer the option of attaching additional storage drives to the main unit to expand storage capacity.
