Super Micro Computer has released new 1U/2U Ultra Series SuperServers, which feature more flexibility and higher bandwidth I/O in 4x 40G QSFP+, 10G SFP+, 10GBASE-T and 1G configurations. The new servers are equipped with better energy efficiency due to its innovative airflow optimized cooling architecture and redundant 1000W Titanium level, high efficiency (96%+) digital power supplies that support dual Intel Xeon processor E5-2600 v3 up to 160W. In addition, memory performance has improved by 14% and the new series features the latest in NVMe technology.

Super Micro Computer indicates that their new NVMe enabled Ultra servers offer up to 7x improved latency as well as up to a 6x increase in bandwidth compared to current SSD technology. The new servers are also the first to provide true Hot-Swap NVMe drive functionality and will offer 10x hot-swap NVMe drive support in 1U and 2x, 4x, 8x or up to 24x hot-swap NVMe support in 2U in the near future. This of course is not Supermicro's first foray into NVMe, we previously spent time with the SuperServer 1027R-WC1NRT in our lab which we reviewed with Intel NVMe drives.
The Ultra series servers are built on Supermicro’s Building Block Server foundation with 750W, 1KW, and coming 1.6KW or 2KW high efficiency digital power supplies, which support Intel Xeon Phi Coprocessor and NVIDIA Tesla GPUs for massive parallel processing and to suit any application’s requirements. The Ultra SuperServers also come equipped with tool-less designs for timesaving configuration and easy maintenance.
