At Computex 2024, Supermicro showed off a lot of hardware, and front and center was the H13 AMD-based generation of servers. They support everything from Ryzen 7000 to the latest EPYC Turin line and AI drivers including AMD Instinct and NVIDIA Accelerators.

H13 GPU Optimized Systems

Models: AS-8125GS-TNHR, AS-8125GS-TNMR2

The Supermicro AS-8125GS-TNMR2 and AS-8125GS-TNHR are both 8U GPU servers designed for high-performance applications, but they have key differences tailored to specific needs.

The AS-8125GS-TNMR2 stands out with its AMD Instinct MI300X GPUs, each boasting 192GB of HBM3 memory. Conversely, the AS-8125GS-TNHR is equipped with NVIDIA HGX H100 GPUs, leveraging NVLink and NVSwitch for efficient high-speed inter-GPU communication, which is ideal for AI and deep learning applications. While both systems are powerful, the NVIDIA HGX H100 GPUs are generally considered more potent for AI-specific tasks due to their specialized architecture and extensive software support. In contrast, the AMD MI300X GPUs offer a balanced approach focusing on energy efficiency and integrated HBM3 memory.

Lastly, both systems support dual AMD EPYC 9004 series processors and up to a generous 6TB of DDR5 memory. The H13 Hyper-U Systems are specifically optimized for cloud-native workloads, providing high-performance solutions focused on scalability and efficiency. The primary difference between the H13 Hyper and H13 Hyper-U systems lies in their processor configurations and intended workloads.

While the H13 Hyper systems feature dual AMD EPYC 9004 Series processors (suitable for applications that require maximum processing power and memory capacity), the H13 Hyper-U systems are optimized for cloud-native workloads and use single processor configurations. As such, they focus on high core counts and efficiency in a streamlined configuration. This makes Hyper-U systems particularly well-suited for applications such as virtualization, AI inferencing, and software-defined storage, where high performance and scalability are essential.

AS-1115HS-TNR

The AS-1115HS-TNR is a 1U server designed to deliver maximum performance in a compact form factor. It supports a single AMD EPYC 9004 Series processor with up to 128 cores, providing powerful application processing capabilities. With support for up to 24 DIMMs and 6TB of DDR5 memory, this server is well-suited for virtualization, AI inferencing, and software-defined storage. The AS-1115HS-TNR also offers flexible storage options, including NVMe, SAS, and SATA3, allowing data centers to tailor their storage solutions to specific needs while maintaining high performance and density.

The AS-1125HS-TNR offers flexible drive bay configurations to suit various storage needs. By default, it includes eight front hot-swap 2.5″ drive bays supporting NVMe, SAS, or SATA drives. Users can expand this to 12 front hot-swap 2.5″ drive bays.

AS-2015HS-TNR and AS-2125HS-TNR

The AS-2015HS-TNR and AS-2125HS-TNR expand on the capabilities of the 1U model with a 2U form factor, providing additional space for enhanced scalability and expansion. The AS-2015HS-TNR and AS-2125HS-TNR feature dual AMD EPYC 9004 processors and 24 DIMM slots. However, the AS-2015HS-TNR supports up to 6TB of DDR5 memory at 4000MT/s with 2DPC, while the AS-2125HS-TNR supports up to 6TB at 4800MT/s with 1DPC.

Regarding storage, the AS-2015HS-TNR has 12 hot-swap 3.5″/2.5″ drive bays and 2 M.2 slots, whereas the AS-2125HS-TNR offers 24 fixed 2.5″ drive bays and 2 M.2 slots. Both systems provide similar PCIe configurations but differ significantly in memory and drive bay configurations. The AS-2125HS-TNR is generally more potent due to its higher memory speed and greater storage capacity, making it better suited for more demanding and scalable data center environments.

H13 CloudDC Systems

Models: AS-1015CS-TNR, AS-1115CS-TNR, AS-2015CS-TNR

They also offer up to 4 PCIe 5.0 x16 slots, providing flexibility for expansion and peripheral support, making these systems particularly suited for applications such as cloud computing, web servers, virtualization, and content delivery networks.

AS-1015CS-TNR and AS-1115CS-TNR

The AS-1015CS-TNR and AS-1115CS-TNR are compact 2U servers designed for high-efficiency cloud deployments. They support a single AMD EPYC 9004 Series processor with up to 12 DIMMs for a maximum of 3TB of DDR5 memory.

The AS-1015CS-TNR and AS-1115CS-TNR both feature PCIe 5.0 x16 slots and AIOM slots, but they differ significantly in their storage capabilities. The AS-1015CS-TNR has 4 hot-swap 3.5″ NVMe/SAS/SATA drive bays, 2 M.2 PCIe 3.0 x2 NVMe slots, and two optional 2.5″ peripheral bays. It also includes standard ports such as USB 3.0, VGA, and a COM port.

In contrast, the AS-1115CS-TNR offers a more extensive storage configuration with ten hot-swap 2.5″ NVMe/SAS/SATA drive bays and 2 M.2 PCIe 3.0 x2 NVMe slots. It also includes extra front USB 2.0 ports and the standard rear USB 3.0, VGA, and COM ports.

The AS-1015CS-TNR is better suited for applications needing larger individual storage drives. Its four hot-swap 3.5″ bays and optional peripheral bays make it a good choice for DNS, gateway servers, and firewall applications. The AS-1115CS-TNR, with its ten hot-swap 2.5″ bays and additional front USB ports, offers higher storage density and is more compact, ideal for web servers, CDN, edge nodes, and a value IaaaS cloud computing environment.

AS-2015CS-TNR

The AS-2015CS-TNR is a 2U server designed for greater scalability and storage flexibility. Similar to its 1U counterparts, it supports a single AMD EPYC 9004 Series processor and up to 12 DIMMs of DDR5 memory.

However, it offers more extensive storage capabilities with twelve hot-swap 3.5″ NVMe, SAS, and SATA drive bays. This model also includes four PCIe 5.0 x16 slots and two AIOM slots, providing ample expansion options for various high-performance applications. The AS-2015CS-TNR is ideal for large-scale cloud deployments, data center optimization, and demanding web applications, ensuring high performance and scalability for complex workloads​.

H13 WIO Systems

The 8004 series is designed for energy efficiency and cost-effective performance (optimized for edge and scale-out environments), while the EPYC 9004 series targets high-performance data center workloads with higher core counts and advanced features.

All three WIO models include dual redundant power supplies (800-860W) to ensure high availability and reliability, essential for mission-critical applications. Furthermore, its tool-less design allows for easy maintenance and upgrades, minimizing downtime and improving overall operational efficiency.

The WIO systems are ideal for virtualization, data center optimization, firewall applications, database/storage solutions, and edge/cloud computing services.

AS-1015SV-WTNRT

Looking specifically at the individual models, they have lighter specifications than the other systems in the H13 line. The AS-1015SV-WTNRT’s design supports up to 576GB of DDR5-4800 memory across six DIMM slots with a storage configuration that includes four hot-swap 3.5″ drive bays. It supports SATA, NVMe, or SAS drives, offering flexibility to meet diverse storage needs. The server also features three PCIe 5.0 x16 slots (two full-height, full-length, and one low-profile), enabling extensive expansion capabilities for various high-performance peripherals.

As we implied above, the AS-1015SV-WTNRT also emphasizes energy efficiency and ease of maintenance. It is ideal for data centers looking to optimize space and power consumption without compromising performance.

AS-1115SV-WTNRT

The AS-1115SV-WTNRT is highlighted by its storage and expansion options while supporting a single AMD EPYC 8004 Series processor. It features ten hot-swap 2.5″ drive bays, six of which are NVMe hybrid, allowing for a mix of NVMe and SATA drives. This configuration offers storage flexibility and is ideal for environments that require high-speed data access and significant storage capacity. It also supports up to 576GB of DDR5-4800 memory across six DIMM slots.

Designed for efficiency and performance, the AS-1115SV-WTNRT includes three PCIe 5.0 x16 slots, providing extensive expansion capabilities for additional high-performance peripherals.
