Syncplicity has announced the beta rollout of group sync and sharing capabilities for business users. This release will make Syncplicity the first solutions provider that gives users the ability to work the way they are accustomed to, syncing their everyday work folders and files across platforms and devices for easy group sharing and collaboration, even while offline.

Simplifying Group Sharing
Syncplicity removes information silos by ensuring that everyone in a group has seamless online and offline access to files in shared folders without having to share folders with each current and new member. In addition, the new Groups functionality allows users and administrators to easily share folders with pre-defined groups of users rather than just individuals. Every member of the group gains instant access to all files in the shared folders with the ability to work on them both online or offline as well as store them anywhere on their computer. When new users join the group, the shared folders are automatically synced to their computers and when users leave the group, they automatically lose access to those folders.

By enabling group-based folder sharing directly from a user’s local file system–without changing how they organize their files–users can collaborate with dynamic cross-functional teams more efficiently by removing the dragging-and-dropping of files into rigid organizationally-aligned file server configurations and the checking of files in and out of awkward content management systems.

Additionally, Syncplicity’s Group sharing feature significantly reduces the time and cost of supporting users and protecting company data. IT Administrators can seamlessly add new users to groups, giving them immediate access to all shared folders automatically on their computers and mobile devices all the while avoiding end-user file server connectivity and permission issues and the complexity of supporting VPNs. Unlike consumer-oriented sync solutions, business data is protected because users who are removed from a group also have their access to shared folders and files associated with that group removed instantly. In addition, data can be wiped and permanently deleted from the users’ synced devices; this ensures that the highest level of security is maintained at all times across individuals, groups, and the organization as a whole.

Additional key features of the Syncplicity group capabilities beta include:

  • Admins can create an unlimited number of groups and easily add users
  • Users and Administrators can share folders with both individuals and groups
  • Folders can be shared with "read only” or “read-write” access to protect files from inappropriate changes; Syncplicity determines an individual user’s access rights based on permissions granted through group membership and individual shares (e.g. a user can be granted read-write access individually even if they belong to a group that just has read-only access)
  • As an added protection, Syncplicity prevents data loss by not allowing any user to permanently delete files unless they are the original owner
  • Synced group folders can be accessed online and offline— if offline, changes are synced to the group as soon as the user connects and Syncplicity automatically handles version conflicts
