Today at CES Synology Inc. announced new DiskStation units, the BeyondCloud bundles. Unlike their previous DiskStation units, the BeyondCloud come with everything preconfigured: the units, the disks, the OS, and various features preinstalled. Users should be able to take the units out of the boxes, plug them in, and get to work.
Today at CES Synology Inc. announced new DiskStation units, the BeyondCloud bundles. Unlike their previous DiskStation units, the BeyondCloud come with everything preconfigured: the units, the disks, the OS, and various features preinstalled. Users should be able to take the units out of the boxes, plug them in, and get to work.
The main selling point of BeyondCloud is that the units are inexpensive and preconfigured to save time. Users will be able to have their own private clouds as soon as they have their units up and running. The units use DiskStation Manager as their OS and come in single disk 2TB and 3TB capacity, and dual disk 6TB (3TB x 2) in mirror configuration.
Benefits include:
- Preinstalled multimedia packages allowing users to create play media files at home or remotely.
- Mobile apps giving users access to terabytes of data for iOS, Android, and Windows Phone devices.
- Mobile apps include DS photo+, DS audio, and DS video
- Using Synology's QuickConnect service allows for remote sharing of media and documents.
- Backups and keeping documents up to date on multiple computers can be easily achieved through Cloud Station
- Note Station allows users to create and share digital notebooks and files.
Availability and pricing
The BeyondCloud packages will be available in the mid to end of January 2015. There are three BeyondCloud packages: the BC115j 1200 priced at $179.99; the BC115j 1300 priced at $239.99; and the BC214se 2300 priced at $369.99.
