Synology has announced two new high-performing NAS solutions, the RackStation RS3617xs and RS816. Robust and scalable, the RS3617xs is designed to provide greater agility and higher efficiency to support large-scale businesses, while the RS816 is a compact 1U 4-bay server rackmount server built for growing businesses.
Leveraging a quad-core 3.3 GHz CPU, the RS3617xs offers some pretty impressive high performance, as it has quoted sequential throughput up to 3,263MB/s, as well as 333,941 IOPS, under a RAID5 configuration using 10GbE Link Aggregation. The RS3617xs is also powered by a comprehensive Btrfs file system with snapshot technology. Synology touts it is capable of very fast point-in-time recovery and can produce up to 65,000 copies of system-wide snapshots, which is ideal for disaster recovery of critical data. In addition, Synology indicates that the RS3617xs offers seamless storage solutions for virtualization environments such as VMware, Citrix, and Hyper-V.

The RS816 is designed for fast changing business environments as well as those that have complicated storage demands. This is made possible due to its flexible scalability of up to eight drives, providing a maximum of 64TB in raw storage capacity in compact 12inch enclosure. Synology has equipped the RS816 with an advanced dual-core CPU that features a hardware encryption engine. This allows the NAS to be quoted at 148MB/s in reads and 81MB/s in writes, a 142% increase in its encrypted write performance compared to its predecessor (the Synology RackStation RS815). The RS816 also features dual LAN failover support to ensure continuous operation.
