Synology Announces Several New Products at CeBIT 2014

Synology has introduced several new products at this year's CeBIT, including the DS414j, a budget-friendly NAS device for home use and small offices; the DS414slim, which is an eco-friendly option; the DS214air, which includes an 802.11ac WiFi and a USB WiFi dongle; the EDS14, which is designed specifically for surveillance cameras; and lastly the DS214play and DS414play, both of which are aimed at multimedia use.


Synology has introduced several new products at this year's CeBIT, including the DS414j, a budget-friendly NAS device for home use and small offices; the DS414slim, which is an eco-friendly option; the DS214air, which includes an 802.11ac WiFi and a USB WiFi dongle; the EDS14, which is designed specifically for surveillance cameras; and lastly the DS214play and DS414play, both of which are aimed at multimedia use.

DS214play and the DS414play are essentially the same product, the only difference being that the former houses a maximum of 2 disks, whereas DS414 houses twice that number.

DS414play and DS214play features and specifications:

  • Embrace the Ultimate Media Center
  • 1080p Full HD video transcoding on the fly
  • Dual core CPU powered by floating point unit
  • 2 USB 3.0 ports and 1GB of RAM
  • Screwless drive bay design and Hot-swappable support

The budget friendly DS414j NAS device is equipped with a dual-core processor and USB 3.0 compatibility, while DS414slim focuses on energy-efficiency and noise reduction. The DS414slim is virtually the same as the DS411slim, only it has two gigabit Ethernet ports instead of just the one. 

The DS214air, a Cloud NAS with a fully-featured Wi-Fi router, packs 802.11ac WiFi, a USB WiFi dongle, and supports 4G LTE. Additionally, the device has three gigabit Ethernet ports. Internally, it boasts a dual-core processor, which is equipped with a 'packet forwarding engine'.

Finally, the EDS14 targets business users who require surveillance cameras as a part of their day-to-day operations.

Also announced by Synology at CeBIT is the RS3614xs+, a high-density rack, designed for 2.5" hard drives and the RS3614x ultra-High performance NAS Server, scalable up to 144TB.
