Synology today announced two new DiskStation NAS solutions for home and business users. The DiskStation DS1010+ is a five-bay business NAS with a claimed 250% faster write speed than its predecessor, and the DS110j is an entry-level single-disk NAS for home users.


Synology today announced two new DiskStation NAS solutions for home and business users. The DiskStation DS1010+ is a five-bay business NAS with a claimed 250% faster write speed than its predecessor, and the DS110j is an entry-level single-disk NAS for home users.

The DS1010+ is expandable up to ten bays and marketed as an affordable alternative to a PC file server. The company claims the DS1010+ has a 116MB/s and 103MB/s read and write speed on average, respectively, in a RAID 5 Windows environment. The second five bays can be added through a separate DX510 expansion enclosure. The DS1010+ supports RAID 1-5 and 6 and scales up to 20TB of storage capacity. A summary of the device’s features are as follows:

Specifications of the DS1010+ include an Intel Atom Dual-Core Processor D510, dual Gigabit LAN ports, 4 USB ports, and 1GB of RAM (expandable to 3GB).

The DiskStation DS1010+ is available in both diskless and pre-installed configurations; the diskless model is currently shipping in the US and Canada.

The DiskStation DS110j is a single-disk entry-level NAS solution for home users starting at $149 (diskless). It is DLNA compliant. The company claims read speeds in Windows are about 45MB/s. The DS110j comes with an AJAX-based web interface DiskStation Manager (DSM). Features enabled by the software include DLNA Complaint Multi-media server, web hosting, remote access, automatic backup, surveillance station, photo sharing, and download station.

The DS110j supports up to a 2TB hard disk and is backed by a two-year warranty.
