The DS412+ certainly looks much more modern than it’s predecessor, which was functional but lacked a certain modern sophistication. Beyond the good looks the DS412+ gains hot-swap support, USB 3.0 ports, dual NICs for link aggregation or failover and improved cooling mechanics via passive CPU cooling and dual exhaust fans. With link aggregation enabled, the DS412+ can deliver read speeds of up to 205 MB/s and writes of 182 MB/s.
Synology also released a pair of single-bay solutions designed to give home and small business users easy access to files remotely, while still providing all of the great functions available in DSM 4.0 like computer backups, group file sharing and video surveillance. The DS112 offers a 1.6 GHz processor with 256MB of RAM, while the DS112j brings a 1.0 GHz processor and 128MB of RAM.
