Today Synology Inc. announced yet another 6-bay DiskStation NAS with the DS1621+. This particular NAS leverages a quad-core, AMD Ryzen processor to deliver twice the processing power. This DiskStation is designed for high-performance data storage and management for SMB that need a bit more on the performance side of things.
Today Synology Inc. announced yet another 6-bay DiskStation NAS with the DS1621+. This particular NAS leverages a quad-core, AMD Ryzen processor to deliver twice the processing power. This DiskStation is designed for high-performance data storage and management for SMB that need a bit more on the performance side of things.
Leveraging the next-generation Zen architecture, the AMD Ryzen processor in the Synology DS 1621+ is said to have over twice the processing power of previous generation Intel processors (Intel Atom C3538). The faster CPU allows the NAS to hit up to 1.1GB/s write and a 4K random read of 110,000 IOPS. The NAS comes with two other performance boosting features, including dual M.2 2280 slots allow NVMe SSD caching without giving up any of the main bays. The NAS also supports an optional 10GbE NIC for faster network speeds.
The Synology 1621+ has 6 bays but can be expanded up to 16 bays through an expansion unit. Given that HDDs are up to 18TB now that means 288TB total capacity. The NAS also comes with Synology DSM and all of the benefits that entails.
