Today Synology Inc. launched a new powerful NAS with the release of the DiskStation DS1621xs+. The Synology DS1621xs+ is a tower NAS with a quad-core Intel Xeon processor, ECC memory, and onboard 10GbE. Quite a powerful release for Synology.
This 6-bay (with two M.2 bays) NAS is aimed all at high-performance. Synology claims that the NAS can hit sequential speeds of 3.1GB/s read and 1.8GB/s write. To hit these numbers, the Synology DS1621xs+ comes with the quad-core Intel Xeon D-1527 CPU, up to 32GB of DDR4 ECC RAM, and has onboard 10GbE connectivity with the ability to add another 10GbE port through the PCIe slot.
For capacity, there are six 3.5” bays for a total of 96TB. The Synology DS1621xs+ can be paired with two additional DX517 expansion units for a total of 256TB through 16 bays. There are also two M.2 slots that can be used for NVMe SSD caching to further enhance performance without giving up any of the main bays.
As with all things Synology, the DS1621xs+ leverages DSM software and all the benefits that come with it.
