Synology Introduces The DiskStation DS416slim

Today Synology Inc. announced another new 4-bay NAS server, the DiskStation DS416slim. The DS416slim is a compact, energy efficient NAS server aimed at home users and professionals. The NAS is easily transportable and can hold up to four 2.5” drives for a max capacity of 8TB. And like all of Synology’s NAS devices, the DS416slim is powered by the award winning OS, DiskStation Manager (DSM).

The DS416slim is small: no longer than 15cm and weighs roughly 700 grams. This makes it able to fit most places and is easily transportable. It small size comes with some decent performance claims of up to 170.23MB/s in reading and 77.62MB/s in writing (with link aggregation enabled). Writing through a single Gigabit LAN, the DS416slim gives a 30% boost compared to the previous generation with 78.81MB/s. The DS416slim uses a dual-core 1.0 GHz CPU with a dedicated encryption engine and 512 MB of DDR3 RAM to hit these numbers. All the while only using 17.17 watts in average during activity.
