Synology has announced they are entering the SME market with new higher-end DiskStation network attached storage (NAS) devices. The new solutions start under $5,000 and can scale to over 100TB.
The RS3411RPxs is a 10-bay 2U rack mount NAS with a redundant power supply. It can utilize two of Synology’s RX1211RP expansion devices for a total of 34 bays (3TB drives x 34 = 102TB total possible capacity). Another expansion slot on the unit allows 10GbE compatibility. The RS3411RPxs is compatible with VMWare, Citrix, and Hyper-V. Synology claims up to 100,000 IOPS and 1,000MB/s transfer rates. The product ships diskless.
xs Series
The RS3411RPxs is part of Synology’s new xs series. Advantages of the xs series include:
- ADS integration for domains up to 100,000 users and groups
- ACL support for granular, file-level, NTFS-style permissions.
- Multiple NICs for multiple networks, MPIO, or link aggregation
- Support for multiple volumes or LUNs on RAID to maximize storage usage
- Support for 10Gbps Ethernet cards
- Support for up to 64 iSCSI targets
- VMware and Citrix compatible for virtualization support
- Shared folder sync for rapid failover
Availability and Pricing
The Synology RX3411RPxs will be available from retailers soon for "under $5,000".
