Toshiba has announced the highest capacity 9.5mm notebook drive available, the 750GB MK7559GSXP. The MK7559GSXP is a 5400RPM 2.5" SATA II hard drive that features a two-platter design and the industry’s highest areal density. Toshiba also announced the new three-platter 12.5mm MKxx59GSM series which comes in 750GB and 1TB capacities.

The MK7559GSXP is a 5400RPM 2.5" SATA II hard drive that features a two-platter design and the industry’s highest areal density. Toshiba also announced the new three-platter 12.5mm MKxx59GSM series which comes in 750GB and 1TB capacities.
Toshiba has integrated several of their own technologies into these drives including Advanced Sector Format technology, which uses 4K byte-per-sector formatting and improved error-correcting code (ECC) functions. Both hard drives also include Toshiba’s “silent seek” technology, which claims seek operations will be as quiet as an idling drive.
Toshiba MK7559GSXP
Clearly the highlight of these new drives, the MK7559GSXP is the first announced 750GB standard size notebook drive. With the highest capacity also comes the highest areal density of 541.4Gb/in.
The MK7559GSXP is expected to ship in the third quarter of this year.
Toshiba MKxx59GSM Series
The MKxx59GSM series are also 2.5" drives that use a SATA interface and 5400 RPM drive speed. The drives come in 750GB and 1TB (MK1059GSM) capacities, and the larger 2.5" 12.5mm designs should fit most gaming and larger format notebooks.
The MKxx59GSM series is expected to ship in the second quarter of this year.
