Today at CES 2018 in Las Vegas, Toshiba Memory America announced its new mainstream M.2 NVMe SSD Series, the RC100. The new series of SSDs bridge the gap between cost-effective and high performance for M.2 NVMe drives. Toshiba will be offering the drives in 120GB, 240GB, and 480GB.

NVMe is delivering on the promise of new levels of performance. This higher level of performance comes at a steep cost preventing some users from adopting strickly due to price. Toshiba has taken its 64-layer, 3-bit-per-cell TLC (triple-level cell) BiCS FLASH and leveraged it in the RC100 line to help lower costs while still bringing the performance. Integrating Host Memory Buffer technology, the RC100 can deliver up to 1.62GB/s sequential read and 1.13GB/s sequential write. On the random side of things, the new drive line can hit 160K IOPS read and 120K IOPS write, all without onboard RAM.
It’s small size and higher performance make it ideal for a range of use cases from PCs to thinner notebooks to be leveraged in gaming. Being an NVMe it comes with better power efficiency, making it appealing for mobile devices. And Toshiba is including a 3-year warranty.
Toshiba will showcase the RC100 at its private suites at the Westgate Las Vegas from January 9 – 11, and will participate in Pepcom’s Digital Experience at CES from 7-10:30 p.m. on Monday, January 8.
