Toshiba’s Storage Products Business Unit has launched the DT01ACA Desktop, a new series of high-density 7,200 RPM SATA hard drives. DT01ACA drives feature terabyte-per-platter designs with one, two, or three platters (500GB to 3TB). 3.5-inch drives remain a mainstay of high-capacity desktop PC and consumer device storage. According to projections from IDC, more than 200 million new systems with 3.5-inch HDD storage are expected to ship worldwide in 2012.

DT01ACA drives feature terabyte-per-platter designs with one, two, or three platters (500GB to 3TB). 3.5-inch drives remain a mainstay of high-capacity desktop PC and consumer device storage. According to projections from IDC, more than 200 million new systems with 3.5-inch HDD storage are expected to ship worldwide in 2012.
Toshiba demonstrated its continued capacity to innovate with 2.5-inch hard drive storage technology with 15K SAS MK01GRRB enterprise series earlier this year. The DT01ACA series is designed to improve high-capacity storage performance for desktop, all-in-one and gaming PCs, home servers, external HDDs, and consumer electronics applications, offering 64MB cache on the 2TB and 3TB models.
While the DT01ACA series is not meant to compete head-to-head with Toshiba’s enterprise drives, the 2TB and 3TB are specified for performance that places the DT01ACA at the peak of consumer and prosumer 3.5-inch drive performance. According to Toshiba, both the 2TB and 3TB models both offer 0.5ms single track seek time and 0.6ms single track seek time in addition to the 4.17ms average latency specified throughout the DT01ACA series.
