Toshiba Announces Three New PX-Series Enterprise SSDs

by Mark Kidd

Toshiba’s Storage Products Business Unit has announced it is expanding its enterprise Solid State Drives (eSSD) family with the PX-Series, which will debut in the fourth quarter with three models targeted for different applications. The new PX02SM, PX02AM, and PX03AN drives span a variety of price and performance points, but all offer power-loss protection and a 2.5-inch form factor.

PX02SM Overview

The PX02SM is the highest-performing of the new drives, and Toshiba’s first SSD to utilize 24nm eMLC (enterprise multi-level cell) NAND. The PX02SM is also Toshiba’s first 2.5-inch SSD with a dual-port 12Gb/sec SAS interface.

  • Capacity (GB): 200, 400, 800, 1600
  • NAND: 24nm eMLC (64Gb/die)
  • Interface: SAS G6b/s and 12GB/s
  • Form Factor: 2.5” SFF x 7mm High (15mm for 1600GB model)
  • Performance (@ QD = 32, Aligned, Sustained, Entropy=100%):
    • Sequential Read 64KiB (MB/s): 900
    • Sequential Write 64KiB (MB/s): 400
    • Random Read 4KiB (KIOPS): 120
    • Random Write 4KiB (KIOPS): 30

    • Operating (Case) Tc C: 0 to 60

PX02AM Overview

Like the PX02SM, Toshiba’s PX02AM series features 24nm eMLC NAND flash but with a 6Gb/s SATA interface, reflecting its orientation towards entry-to-mid-level server and storage applications.

  • Capacity (GB): 100, 200, 400
  • NAND: 24nm eMLC (64Gb/die)
  • Interface: SATA G6b/s
  • Form Factor: 2.5” SFF x 7mm High
  • Performance (@ QD = 32, Aligned, Sustained, Entropy=100%):
    • Sequential Read 64KiB (MB/s): 500 (100GB), 500 (200GB), 500 (400GB)
    • Sequential Write 64KiB (MB/s): 130 (100GB), 240 (200GB), 240 (400GB)

  • Operating (Case) Tc C: 0 to 60
  • Non-Operating Ta C: -40 to 70

PX03AN Overview

The PX03AN series is another first for Toshiba, its first enterprise SSD to use 19nm cMLC (consumer multi-level cell) NAND flash to drive down the cost for entry-level server applications.

  • Capacity (GB): 55, 120, 240, 480
  • NAND: 19nm cMLC (64Gb/die)
  • Interface: SATA G6b/s
  • Form Factor: 2.5” SFF x 7mm High
