Toshiba Memory America, Inc. announced that it released the XD5 Series NVMe SSD in a 2.5-inch, 7mm form factor. The XD5 is a data center and cloud SSD that is optimized for low-latency and performance geared toward read-intensive workloads. Previously available as an M.2, the new form factor keeps the above features with the added benefits of a maximum capacity of 3.84TB.
Toshiba Memory America, Inc. announced that it released the XD5 Series NVMe SSD in a 2.5-inch, 7mm form factor. The XD5 is a data center and cloud SSD that is optimized for low-latency and performance geared toward read-intensive workloads. Previously available as an M.2, the new form factor keeps the above features with the added benefits of a maximum capacity of 3.84TB.
The 2.5” XD5 SSD is built on the company’s 64-layer BiCS FLASH TLC (3-bit-per-cell) 3D flash memory and leverages a PCIe Gen3x4 interface. According to Toshiba, the XD5 is able to hit speeds up to 2.7GB/s read and 895MB/s write all with the power consumption of only 7 watts. Throughput numbers are quoted as 250K IOPS read and 21K IOPS write. The drive has 1 DWPD and can hit roughly 4TB of random data daily for five years at a consistent performance rate. The drive also comes with a 5-year warranty.

The company will showcase its new XD5 2.5-inch SSDs at the upcoming OCP Global Summit, Booth #A1 in the San Jose Convention Center from March 14 – 15, 2019.
Availability
The 2.5” XD5 is sampling to select customers and is expected to be available in the second quarter of 2019.
