Toshiba has announced the PX02SS, a 2.5" 12GB/s SAS enterprise SSD designed for write intensive workloads like online transactional databases. The PX02SS joins the recently released PX02SM, which is also a 12GB/s SAS SSD, but generally fails to take advantage of the speedy interface. Both drives use eMLC NAND, but the PX02SS is tuned specifically for heavy writes with support for 30 full drive writes per day and should be better conditioned to hit the upward limits of the SAS interface.

The drives ship in 100GB to 800GB capacities and offer sequential reads and writes (64KB) of up to 1100MB/s and 410MB/s respectively. The drives have a service life of 5 years.
