VAST Data used Cisco Live 2024 to unveil its collaboration with Cisco to deliver a high-performance AI infrastructure. This joint solution integrates VAST Data’s platform with Cisco’s Ethernet-based AI fabric, designed to efficiently manage data at an exabyte scale.

Optimized and Supported with Cisco Nexus HyperFabric

The VAST Data Platform, which provides unified storage, database, and data-driven function engine services tailored for AI, is now optimized and supported with Cisco Nexus HyperFabric. VAST Data is seamlessly integrated with the Cisco cloud controller, allowing for streamlined deployment and management within data centers. This integration uses VAST APIs to pull network and storage telemetry, enabling Cisco customers to monitor and correlate performance and latency, optimizing complex applications.

Combined, VAST Data and Cisco facilitate the creation of AI data centers using NVIDIA GPU servers and Cisco networking. This collaboration spans design, implementation, and management, providing comprehensive visibility across compute, networking, storage, and data management. The solution ensures organizations can efficiently scale their AI operations.

Scale and Performance

Generative AI demands exceptional scale and performance, prompting significant investments in Ethernet networking technologies. A report from IDC indicated the Ethernet switching market surged by 20.1% in 2023, reaching $44.2 billion, driven by enterprise AI deployments. With NVIDIA and VAST Data integration, Cisco can offer innovative connectivity through Ethernet-powered AI network fabrics characterized by unmatched programmability, performance, flexibility, and efficiency, meeting the rigorous demands of modern AI/ML platforms.

Renen Hallak, CEO and co-founder of VAST Data highlighted the partnership’s role in simplifying enterprise AI adoption, making it easier to transition from proof of concept to production. He emphasized the importance of customer advocacy in establishing this collaboration.

Cisco Nexus Certification

VAST Data has also certified Cisco Nexus Ethernet-based switches with its platform. By integrating Cisco Nexus 9000 Series Switches into their storage fabric, Cisco and VAST deliver the necessary scale, speed, and efficiency for AI applications. The Cisco Nexus switches provide industry-leading performance, scalability, and real-time telemetry through the Cisco Nexus Dashboard, enhancing network management and operations across all infrastructure endpoints.

Jonathan Davidson, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Networking at Cisco, highlighted the increasing demand for efficient, high-speed access to massive data sets required by AI workloads. He expressed confidence in partnering with VAST Data and NVIDIA to address enterprise networking, data, and security challenges, thereby accelerating business innovation.

Availability

The VAST Data Platform integrated with Cisco is currently available in beta for select customers, with general availability expected in Q4 of 2024.
