New VDURA Data Platform software delivers performance, scale, and management simplicity.
VDURA has announced the release of the VDURA Data Platform software, a solution designed to set new industry benchmarks in performance, scalability, and data management simplicity. This platform is engineered to meet the increasing demands of AI and high-performance computing (HPC) environments. With the new release, enterprises and service providers can manage data efficiently, achieve high-speed performance, and drive AI initiatives while maintaining high reliability and scalability.
This latest iteration of the VDURA Data Platform represents a significant modernization over previous releases. It features a fully parallel, microservices-based architecture, a flash-optimized metadata engine, and an enhanced object storage layer. These elements collectively enable unprecedented efficiency, scalability, and durability, making the platform suitable for deployment across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.
According to Ken Claffey, CEO of VDURA, the latest platform release simplifies data management while delivering exceptional performance and reliability. Claffey emphasizes that the platform allows enterprises to scale seamlessly, accelerating AI initiatives and empowering businesses to manage complexity and achieve transformative results.
Key Software Innovations
The VDURA Data Platform introduces several fundamental software features, including:
- VeLO: Velocity Layered Operations — VeLO is an advanced Key Value Store integrated into the platform’s Director layer, specifically designed for handling small files and metadata operations. Optimized for flash storage, VeLO is capable of delivering up to two million IOPS per instance, meeting the demands of diverse workloads common in AI environments. The platform supports unlimited VeLO instances within the same Global Namespace, ensuring flexibility and scalability as workloads grow.
- VPOD: Virtualized Protected Object Device – VPODs are discrete, virtualized, and protected storage units that form the core of data storage within hybrid nodes. These scalable VPOD instances operate within a unified Global Namespace, delivering high performance and adaptability to evolving storage needs. Data within VPODs is protected through erasure coding across multiple VPODs in the cluster, with an optional additional layer of erasure coding within each VPOD for enhanced data integrity. This multi-layered approach achieves up to 11 nines of durability with minimal overhead, while data reduction services enhance efficiency, reducing both costs and total ownership expenses.
- Advanced Data Management and Placement – The VDURA Data Platform’s architecture, built on discrete microservices, simplifies deployment across thousands of nodes and ensures linear performance scalability within an infinitely expandable global namespace. Intelligent data orchestration capabilities enable optimal data placement across discrete storage tiers, all within a single, unified data and control plane. This architecture enhances data management flexibility, providing seamless operations across various storage environments.
Certified Hardware Platforms
To complement the software offerings, VDURA unveiled the V5000 Certified Platform, a hardware solution optimized to take advantage of the full potential of the VDURA Data Platform. This hardware platform combines modular storage nodes that can be configured based on user requirements, prioritizing either maximum throughput, capacity, or IOPS.
V5000 Platform highlights include:
- 1U Director Nodes powered by the latest AMD EPYC 9005 processors, equipped with NVIDIA ConnectX-7, Broadcom 200Gb Ethernet, SAS 4 adapters, and Phison PCIe NVMe SSDs. These nodes are optimized for high IOPS and metadata operations, making them an ideal complement to the VeLO layer.
- Hybrid Storage Nodes utilize the same Director Node server architecture and are paired with 4U JBODs running VPODs. This setup provides cost-effective bulk storage with high performance and reliability, catering to users with large-scale storage needs.
Budget Friendly
The VDURA Data Platform’s flexible architecture supports a customizable ratio of HDD to flash content, allowing enterprises to optimize configurations for cost, performance, and durability. This flexibility enables organizations to balance capacity and throughput while maintaining a consistent global namespace, making the VDURA Data Platform suitable for diverse capacity, pricing, and performance requirements.
