At VeeamON 2017 in New Orleans, Veeam Software announced it was working with Microsoft to add new capabilities for protection in the hybrid cloud. This announcement builds off of the long-standing alliance between the two companies. The new solutions announced include, Veeam Disaster Recovery in Microsoft Azure and Veeam PN for Microsoft Azure. Veeam is also announcing its latest version of Veeam Backup for Office 365.
At VeeamON 2017 in New Orleans, Veeam Software announced it was working with Microsoft to add new capabilities for protection in the hybrid cloud. This announcement builds off of the long-standing alliance between the two companies. The new solutions announced include, Veeam Disaster Recovery in Microsoft Azure and Veeam PN for Microsoft Azure. Veeam is also announcing its latest version of Veeam Backup for Office 365.
More and more organizations are using clouds such as Azure. And as more make the switch, either partially or completely, they need cloud backup and disaster recovery (DR) options. The cloud, with its pay-as-you-go and on-demand nature, needs high availability. At the same time, this very nature can make DR affordable for businesses of any size. The solutions announced here leverage backup and DR based on Microsoft Azure and Veeam “Always-On Cloud” Availability Platform.
The two new solutions include:
- Veeam Disaster Recovery in Microsoft Azure simplifies and automates a disaster recovery in Azure, helping businesses maintain business continuity and availability of critical workloads with all-encompassing on-demand DR in Azure. Veeam DR in Azure combines Veeam Direct Restore and NEW Veeam PN (Veeam Powered Network).
- Veeam PN for Microsoft Azure is a powerful solution designed to simplify and automate the setup of a DR site in Azure using lightweight software-defined networking (SDN). It helps maintain business continuity and availability by eliminating the complexity of VPN deployments and is designed for businesses of all sizes and service providers.
Along with the above mentioned solutions, Veeam announced a new Scale Out Backup Repository (SOBR) support for cloud object storage as an Archive Tier extent. Now customers will be able to archive their Veeam backups to Azure Blob storage. This feature can help reduce long-term data archival, retention and compliance costs.
Though previously announced, Veeam is making its Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows generally available at VeeamON. This agent would extend Veeam’s Availability Suite benefits to Windows-based physical servers, workstations and endpoints, as well as Windows workloads running in Azure. Along with this, Microsoft quadrupled the size of the disks customers can access and use in Azure (now 4TB versus 1TB). This is especially attractive to Veeam users that have Azure to back up their data.
And finally, Veeam has had a SaaS Availability solution, Veeam Backup for Office 365, for a little while. At VeeamON the company updated it to v1.5. In this update, a multi-tenant architecture enables protecting larger Office 365 deployments with a single installation, while empowering Veeam Cloud and Service Providers to deliver Office 365 backup services. Though this update is just released, Veeam is already working on the next version that will include support for SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business.
