This new feature will be demonstrated live for the first time at the upcoming VeeamON 2024 conference, scheduled for June 3-5, 2024.
Currently, in version 8.2, Proxmox VE is a virtualization platform that has been increasingly popular among businesses looking to optimize their technology stacks according to specific needs. This aligns with the principle of Data Freedom, a concept supported by Veeam, which underscores the ability for organizations to freely move, protect, and recover their data across their preferred platforms without being tethered to specific technologies or cloud environments.
This latest development is part of a broader expansion of the Veeam Data Platform, which aims to provide comprehensive data security, recovery, and management solutions. The platform supports a variety of environments, including VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, Nutanix AHV, Oracle Linux Virtualization Manager, Red Hat Virtualization, and primary cloud services like AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud. Adding Proxmox VE will further broaden the choices available to Veeam’s extensive customer base, which numbers over 450,000.
Key features of Proxmox VE support by Veeam include immutable backups, which protect data from ransomware attacks by making cloud and on-premises backups unchangeable. Advanced change block tracking (CBT) integration and hot-add backup modes will facilitate enhanced backup performance, allowing for quicker and more efficient backup processes that minimize operational disruption.
Additional functionalities include Veeam BitLooker, which optimizes storage usage by excluding unused disk blocks from backups, and diverse storage options supported by Veeam Backup & Replication. This flexibility helps customers meet their specific recovery time objectives (RTO) and recovery point objectives (RPO) within budget.
The feature also provides the capability for full VM recovery across various platforms, including VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V, to and from Proxmox VE, resulting in reduced downtime and enhanced productivity. Advanced granular recovery options secure continuous operations by enabling quick recovery from data disruptions such as ransomware attacks.
