Ventana Micro Systems Inc. has unveiled the Veyron V2, the newest member of their RISC-V processor family and the current leading market performer. Ventana takes a leap forward in processor design by offering the Veyron V2 both as chiplets and IP (Intellectual Property), setting a new standard for RISC-V processing power.
Balaji Baktha, the Founder and CEO of Ventana, delivered the specifics of the Veyron V2 during his keynote at the RISC-V Summit North America 2023 in Santa Clara. The V2’s advanced features are poised to spark innovation across diverse sectors, including data centers, automotive, 5G, AI, and client applications, while optimizing performance per watt per dollar.
The Veyron V2’s improvements include:
- Performance and Efficiency: The V2 offers a performance surge of up to 40 percent, attributed to microarchitecture improvements, a sophisticated, high-performance processor fabric, an advanced cache hierarchy, and a new high-performance vector processor.
- Ecosystem Growth with RISE: The RISE initiative enhances ecosystem support, propelling V2’s ability to rapidly offer open, scalable, and flexible solutions.
- Reduced Costs and Quicker Market Entry: Veyron V2’s UCIe chiplet interconnect leads the industry, continuing the precedent set by its predecessor in offering economic benefits. By utilizing chiplets, development time can be slashed by years and costs by a significant margin, all while allowing customization for compute, IO, and memory, fostering innovation and workload-specific optimization.
- Domain-Specific Acceleration: Integrating Ventana’s Domain Specific Accelerator technology with the Veyron V2’s processor pipeline boosts efficiency across data center infrastructure, enabling customer-led innovation and distinctiveness.
Ventana is backing up the Veyron V2 launch with a Software Development Kit (SDK) encompassing a suite of software tools already validated on Ventana’s RISC-V platform. The Veyron V2 itself boasts impressive specifications, including:
- 15 wide, aggressive out-of-order pipeline
- 3.6GHz clock speed
- 4nm process technology
- Scalable up to 192 cores
- 128MB shared L3 cache per cluster
- 512b vector unit
- AI matrix extensions
The V2 is built for server-class performance incorporating features like an I/O memory management unit (IOMMU), Advanced Interrupt Architecture, advanced side channel attack defenses, comprehensive RAS capabilities, and is fine-tuned for top-down performance. A Veyron V2 Development Platform is also available, further facilitating software adaptation.
