VergeIO has announced VergeOS Atria, its latest data center operating system release. This new release allows organizations to add edge to their infrastructure with a mesh-based management capability that enables remote monitoring and operation of edge locations. A vital element of the Atria release is the ability to manage dozens, if not hundreds, of edge locations. Most edge deployments need more support staff to administer, troubleshoot, and service edge devices. VergeOS is an ultra-converged infrastructure (UCI) that integrates virtualization, storage, and networking into a single piece of software. This integration provides a high degree of efficiency that enables VergeOS to scale to meet the needs of the enterprise and scale down to fit the constraints of the edge.
Adding Edge to the Infrastructure
UCI enables IT to use the same data center operating system at the edge and in the core data center. Deploying VergeOS on two micro-servers, like Intel’s Next Unit of Computing (NUC), delivers a complete data center the size of a shoebox. In the core data center, VergeOS allows customers to scale to hundreds of nodes, supporting various workloads from a single piece of hardware.
VergeOS Atria includes Site Manager, a mesh-like management capability that can report each site’s status while allowing administrators to operate from a single interface. IT can securely and safely manage software updates for hundreds of edge sites and core data centers.
The site manager will parse through all site reports and highlight specific information that IT needs to be aware of and correct issues that may occur. The mesh design of Site Manager means there is no single point of management failure.
The New Edition
With the Atria release, VergeIO is creating a new edition of its software, “Edge Edition,” which supports a highly-available pair of nodes, 64GB per RAM per node, and unlimited storage.

Simplify with Recipe Marketplace
VergeOS Atria makes the private cloud a reality in the core data center with the addition of VergeIO’s Recipe Marketplace. With a few clicks, the marketplace enables IT to deploy complete workloads, including all the VMs for that workload, the operating system and application software for those VMs, and the storage and network configurations.
In the initial release, the Recipe Marketplace will have over a dozen built-in recipes; customers can clone them or create their own and, in the future, contribute them to a community-driven marketplace. With VergeOS’ ability to consolidate different servers, storage, and networking into a cohesive operating environment, the Recipe Marketplace completes the private cloud vision.
VergeOS Adds External Backup Support
While VergeOS includes both built-in backup and multi-data center replication, the Atria release enables external backup software applications like Veeam, Commvault, and others to back up the VergeIO environment. External backup enables IT to integrate the VergeOS environment into their backup and disaster recovery procedures.
Improved Performance
There are 140 enhancements in the Atria release. VergeOS improves performance load distribution, so all the elements within the data center operating system are used to maximum efficiency.
