Moving to the cloud, or several clouds, is all the rage at the moment. It can save companies money and Software as a Server (SaaS) can give them access to new technology as soon as it is ready to use. The biggest problem with companies migrating to the cloud is knowing where their data is and how to protect it. The newly enhanced Backup Exec is designed to protect this data in the cloud while making it easier to adopt cloud based storage methods.

Making the ability to purchase a data protection solution easier for companies is a big step at increasing adoption. The latest version of Veritas Backup Exec gives customers the storage and pricing options to fit most needs. The new subscription-based purchasing allows users to take advantage of the latest technology as it becomes available. If for some reason business needs chance, the subscription can be changed as well.

Subscription models include:

  • Veritas Backup Exec Subscription Bronze: Protection for physical and virtual file servers on-premises and in the cloud
  • Veritas Backup Exec Subscription Silver: Protection for physical and virtual file servers, databases and applications on-premises and in the cloud
  • Veritas Backup Exec Subscription Gold: Protection for physical and virtual file servers, databases and applications on-premises and in the cloud with centralized management for the Backup Exec servers in multi-site environments

On top of the subscription-based purchasing, Veritas is also integrating Veritas Information Map with Backup Exec. This integration will give users an interactive, real-time view of their unstructured data assets for both on-premises and cloud-based data storage repositories. Customers could potentially gain insights from such visibility not to mention being able to make more informed decisions on storage regarding risks, retention, migration, and deletion.

Availability

The newly enhanced Veritas Backup Exec is available now. The integration with Veritas Information Map is expected to be available in the coming quarters.
