VMware Inc. has announced the general availability of new solutions as well as updates to some of their current solutions. The new solutions and updates are aimed at helping businesses build, manage, and protect their software-defined data center environments. They include: VMware NSX 6.1, VMware vCloud Suite 5.8, VMware vRealize Operations Insight, VMware vRealize Suite 6, and VMware vSphere Data Protection Advanced 5.8. VMware also announced the availability of VMware vSphere Remote Branch Office to allow businesses with multiple sites to take advantage of virtualization.

The new solutions, updates and their new capabilities include:
- VMware NSX 6.1 – a network virtualization and security platform for software-defined data centers. The new version offers a host of new capabilities including:
- Advanced micro-segmentation capabilities: limiting unauthorized lateral movement with improved, automated provisioning, improved troubleshooting and monitoring, and further simplification of provisioning traffic redirection to NSX security.
- Hybrid cloud connectivity – enables enterprises to migrate workloads, do data center consolidation, or create stretched application tiers across multiple data centers and enables service providers to easily offer tenants on-boarding and cloud bursting services, persevering tenant application networks across data centers without the need to be on premise
- Equal Cost Multi-Path (ECMP) routing – addresses the North-South bandwidth requirements of large production cloud networks, all in software, by allowing the creation of highly available and distributed NSX Edge cluster, providing high-bandwidth uplink connection to the physical network, and providing active-active redundancy at the network virtualization edged
- vCloud Automation Center 6.1 integration – optimizes for resource utilization and scale by connecting dynamically created applications to a pre-created VMware NSX logical distributed router, allows for application isolation by default and enable consumption of pre-approved security policies, and provides security automation workflows that can be integrated with compute automation
- VMware vCloud Suite 5.8 – an integrated offering for building and managing a VMware vShpere private cloud based on a software-defined data center. The new version introduces new policy-based provisioning capabilities, enhanced networking and security services to customer applications and infrastructure, as well as integrations enabling businesses to add disaster recovery services via VMware vCenter Recovery Manager 5.8.
- VMware vRealize Operations Insight – delivers intelligent operations from apps to storage for both vShpere and physical hardware. VMware vRealize Operations Insight is a new unified management solution for performance management, capacity optimization, and real-time log analytics. Extending intelligent operations management beyond vShpere environments, it includes operating systems, physical servers, storage and network hardware, and is supported a marketplace of extensions to manage third-party tools. VMware vRealize Operations Insight is an add-on solution to VMware vSphere Management with Operations Management.
- VMware vRealize Suite 6 – a cloud management platform combining the capabilities of VMware's existing cloud automation, cloud operations, and cloud business management solutions into a one offering. vRealize Suite 6 is designed to manage heterogeneous environments and hybrid clouds, enabling IT to deliver infrastructure and applications at the speed of business with the control IT needs. The new features include:
- Additional features for extending custom-built automation capabilities
- Simplified deployment
- Management of multi-tier applications
- Improved user experience
- VMware vSphere Data Protection Advanced 5.8 – backs up virtual machines as well as virtualized applications while protecting applications such as Microsoft Exchange, SQL Server, and SharePoint. New features include:
- Enhanced support for business critical applications
- Augmented replication capabilities
- Customizable proxies
- Backup work streams to protect VMware vSphere environments
- VMware vSphere Remote Office Branch Office – a new solution that enables businesses with multiple sites to take advantage of virtualization to rapidly provision servers, minimize of host of configuration drift, and enhance visibility into regulatory compliance. The product comes with a pack of 25 virtual machines.
