Today at VMworld 2017 in Las Vegas, VMware Inc. announced that it would make its VMware Workspace ONE powered by AirWatch into the industry's first unified end user experience, management and security solution for all endpoint platforms through new innovations. The company goes on to state that Workspace ONE will enable unified endpoint management (UEM) and unify the end user experience across all endpoint platforms including Windows, macOS, Chrome OS, iOS, and Android. One further step in integration is Workspace ONE unique ability to integrate APIs from other endpoint platform providers, meaning it always can stay up to date.
Workspace ONE integrates AirWatch endpoint management technology with end-user identity. This integration helps to deliver a simple experience (similar to a mobile experience) to end users while providing enterprise grade security. The same experience can be extended to traditional Windows environments with VMware Horizon virtual application and desktop technology. Companies can give employees a new laptop and have them up and running in a matter of minutes. This will eliminate desktop management while increasing security. And this experience can apply to either Windows 10 or macOS with Workspace ONE.
Other major benefits of Workspace ONE is its ability to offer cloud-based peer-to-peer (P2P) software distribution technology. Companies can install large applications to distributed PCs at scale without the need for branch office servers requiring siloed infrastructure management. Workspace ONE can also manage Chrome devices (the first solution to do so). It can also manage iOS, Android, Windows 10, macOS, and Chrome OS covering all the bases. HP will be offering a device as a service (DaaS) using Workspace ONE. The solution will aide in adopting Office 365 as well by bypassing the complicated provisioning. Workspace ONE gives customers the ability to enforce and manage security policies and data loss prevention alongside all of their applications and devices.
VMware is also introducing an add-on service to Workspace ONE, Workspace ONE Intelligence. This new add-on service delivers comprehensive insights and automated actions to help accelerate planning, enhance security, and improve end user experience. These insights help IT admin determine performance and security needs of end users. The automated actions will generate real-time action to threats while at the same time optimizing performance.
Availability
Updates to Workspace ONE are expected to be generally available in later this year. General availability for Workspace ONE Intelligence is expected in the fourth quarter of 2017 or into 2018.
