VMware has announced vCloud Hybrid Service – Disaster Recovery, a new cloud-based disaster recovery (DR) solution that provides a continuously available recovery site for VMware virtualized data centers while seamlessly extending DR to the public cloud. This announcement makes way for a new approach to DR by VMware, as very few applications are continuously protected in the business world because it is either too expensive or too complicated to include them in a DR plan.

Most DR services require expensive professional installation services as well as physically transporting backups and manually rebuilding servers and loading backup files. VMware vCloud Hybrid Service – Disaster Recovery however, is simple to set up, can be self-managed, and is a fraction of the cost and complexity compared to traditional DR solutions. Since many IT organizations are already knowledgeable with vSphere, administering vCloud Hybrid Service – Disaster Recovery enables DR to be just as easy, making it an ideal choice for mid-size businesses looking to protect their IT investments.

As such, VMware is unique from other cloud providers by making DR more simple and cost-effective, allowing consumers to use the cloud to deliver business value without the operational complexity and incompatibility that are normally inherent to other public clouds.
