Today marks the beginning of VMware’s ninth annual VMworld conference, where StorageReview is on site to cover major product launches from VMware and its partners. We will also be seeking out demonstrations of new and innovative technology on the tradeshow floor. Among the first product announcements of the conference is VMware’s vCloud Suite 5.1, which adds a variety of new functionality to the vSphere platform.

VMware vSphere 5.1 now supports VMs with up to 64 virtual CPUs and offers an enhanced vMotion to enable live migration of VMs without requiring shared storage. vSphere 5.1 also introduces vSphere Data Protection for backup and recovery, vSphere Replication for disaster protection, and vShield Endpoint for more efficient VM security.

For small and medium businesses, VMware has also announced improved vSphere 5.1 Essentials Plus and vSphere 5.1 Standard with Operations Management solutions. VMware is now offering Cloud Ops Intellectual Property (IP) and advisory services to help SMBs build, operate, and optimize cloud environments.
