Walton Chaintech has launched an interesting product in the SSD space. The Apogee SSD Convertor takes up to two CompactFlash cards, in RAID 0 or RAID1 no less, and mounts them in a standard 2.5" form factor with SATA II connector. The end result is a pseudo SSD that offers "blazingly fast" transfer speeds.

While a CF to SSD converter sounds more like a party trick perhaps than a practical application, Walton Chaintech claims the Apogee SSD Convertor gets 55MB/sec in a data read test when using their high-speed CF cards. That’s a bit faster than 5400RPM drives, but not even close to the latest SSDs. Even so, there’s probably a few applications where a drive bay like this would be useful.
